Maddie Zahm (+ show review)
LA based singer/songwriter Maddie Zahm recently embarked on her sold out debut headlining tour following the release of her debut EP You Might Not Like Her. Making a stop at Neumos in Seattle, she delivered a phenomenal performance that had the crowd singing, dancing, and crying along.
Starting out her set with “Pocket Bible,” the first of many songs touching on Zahm’s relationship with religion, she then quickly moved into a moving, raw performance of her hit song “Fat Funny Friend” which had the crowd screaming the lyrics back to Zahm with incredible passion. Zahm continued her set with a stripped down performance of ‘Blind Side’, preluded with a warning “I will forget the 2nd verse,” she said with a grin.
Powerful, soulful ballads ‘Dani’ and ‘If It’s Not God’ came next, continuing to dissect Zahm’s relationship with her faith as well as with her sexuality. “This song is the first song I wrote about a girl,” she explained before ‘Dani’.
Following her emotional performance of “Dani” and “If It’s Not God,” she launched into “Lady Killer,” a groovy track following Zahm’s attraction to various women. “Ok, here’s some gay shit,” she remarked before the song. Finishing out the night with her recent single “Step On Me,” she described this song as “the closest [she] could get to a fuck you song, as an anxious person”.
Maddie Zahm has cultivated a truly inclusive, loving, supportive fanbase and it is evident throughout her live show. Her passion and love for her craft are truly inspiring and her performance radiated nothing but positive vibes.
