Song Review: "little does she know" by Molly Seger ft. Izzy Pomerants

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Molly Seger is back again with a new impactful listening experience in “little does she know!” Released on September 28th, Seger transports listeners with the help of Izzy Pomerants. This latest single is Seger’s third single of 2022, following February’s “hands all over” and April’s “california from the backseat.”

With “little does she know,” Seger has listeners feeling the betrayal and confusion of being left behind as someone you loved recreates all your memories with someone new. The shock and grieving of the hurt is shown in how Seger writes “little does she know / I’m right above you when you're telling her the same things you told me only weeks ago / the walls are just way too thin.” This single follows similar subject matter to “hands all over” but approaches the situation more melancholy, in comparison to the upbeat screaming-in-your-car-with-your-friends “hands all over.” Using vivid description in her lyricism, Seger has mastered the art of transporting listeners into her place in this memory she has managed to capture.

“Little does she know'' opens with Seger’s vocals accompanied by a singular acoustic guitar part, but builds into this grand blend of varying sounds. Pomerants’ dreamy vocals build passion alongside Seger’s, sounding vaguely as though the two are attempting to converse, especially with the outro. The instrumental portion of the song also builds to include varying guitar parts and a whimsical orchestral-esque portion, heightening the emotions within the bridge.
