Song Review: “Object Permanence” by Arm’s Length

Canadian band Arm’s Length has released their newest single “Object Permanence,” and it’s one of their best songs yet. The song keeps the band’s signature sound and displays the lyrical abilities that many of their previous songs have. As a band that is known for their lyrical content, this song does not disappoint and fits perfectly as an introduction to a new era of Arm’s Length. It’s about begging a lover to stay out of fear of the unknown and not being ready to call it quits. Lyrics like “You’re getting good at letting go at your own pace, I think I’ll hold on until my fingers slip away” is just one example of the emotional tone the song takes on.

The music video appears to be filmed in an apartment, playing out a couple fighting with each other, with the band playing in the background. The quick panning of the camera all around the scene reflects the chaos going on and helps viewers visualize themselves witnessing the event as if they were in the room. Seeing the band play and putting their all into it also shows a genuine passion and love for music, which is always a great sign.

Arm’s Length is opening for Young Culture and Super American on their tour this fall, and Object Permanence is on streaming services now. Go give it a listen, and if you can, catch them at a show near you!
