Video Premiere: “Who Else” by Gabbo

D.C. based artist Gabbo has introduced their debut record, Corn, with the emotionally-charged single “Who Else” and its accompanying music video out today via Gardenhead Records.

Gabbo’s brand of freak folk incorporates influences from experimental pop and emo for introspective tracks that would perfectly soundtrack a springtime sulk. “Who Else” is a standout from Corn, with soaring vocals and a sense of longing to be heard after being shut out by a loved one. The acoustic-driven track burns slowly, with its urgency building during its last minute with layered group harmonies that are moving almost to a haunting degree.

The music video for “Who Else” features a juxtaposition between its warm colors and nostalgic textures, and Gabbo’s hard-hitting lyricism that back its beauty. The visuals take a backseat to the stark, poignant words, but the video’s atmosphere perpetuates that longing for when life felt brighter and lacked that feeling of being stuck.

With its progressive view of folk, Corn is a sonic step forward for Gabbo, making them an exciting artist to watch within the D.C. scene. The full-length record is out May 5th on Gardenhead Records.
